It’s a marzapan world…
The ice storm seems to have passed- round three of the storm leaving nothing but rain of the non-freezing variety. A good thing, I say. From Friday afternoon though Saturday morning we got around 3 inches of sleet. I found that walking around on the sleet covered ground was very doable, and Buster I and did some hiking around the property- we didn’t even attempt to clear the 3 inches of ice off the cars since the roads were pure ice. On Saturday afternoon the freezing rain/sleet kicked in and by Sunday morning the ground looked like it was covered in that white stuff the cake decorator guy on The Food Channel guy uses…I think its called marzipan. Anyway, the edges of everything are rounded off and coated in white ice. It wasn’t conducive to walking at all. Buster was really unhappy, but then by accident I found that my Crocs worked ok on the ice, so we set off on a little walk. Buster fell at least 3 times. I fell once- but I was sort of anticipating it and was already crouched over…I ended up sliding downhill on hands and knees- laughing and swearing at the same time. Buster was farther down the hill when I fell. He was trying to climb back up the hill and making no headway...he looked like someone trying to go up the down escalator...feet and legs going like mad and making little headway...pretty funny stuff. When I fell, I probably yanked the leash and knocked him off his feet. All a saw was Buster on his butt sliding back down to the bottom of the hill at a high rate of speed looking like something from a Disney cartoon. Partly due to uncontrollably laughing, and being on a hill on ice, I had to climb on hands and knees until reached somewhat level ground and managed to pull myself upright again. The whole time I was crawling Buster was walking next to me licking my face and crying..I think he thought his mom got 'broke' and he was hoping to fix me up. It would have been a great time to be carrying a camera.
By Sunday afternoon we got the ‘regular’ rain and temps around 35 degrees, so the ice is sort of softened. Jorgie got out late in the evening and got the ice off the dish so we have internet access again..yea!
Hopefully we can get dug out tomorrow…we are lucky it is a work holiday and we don’t have to worry about trying to get to work. We are hoping to go check out this guy tomorrow. We have been looking for another dog- specifically a doxie, so hopefully Petey will be a good match for us.
My 'cooped up for 3 day weekend' chore is nearly complete. We are ripping out the parquet flooring (and linolium under that) in the entry way so we can put down the ceramic tile we bought like 2 years ago. I have all the parquet tiles up, and most of the lino, but there is still some gluey residue that is going to need to be peeled off. The last time I took up lino it took a nasty chemical to get the glue up, so I'll probably have to check at Westlakes tomorrow.
