If you see anything that might be a turtle....

This morning I saw three turtles in the road...all on a stretch of about 30 yards of road.
I was able to perform 1 turtle rescue, although I should have just pulled all three of them out of the road and 'crossed them over' to the side they were headed for.

Back when Jess was little she loved to look for turtles in the road. I would always tell her when it was time to start looking (generally in the Spring). She would lean as far forward as her car seat would allow and scan the road ahead diligently looking for turtles. She would remind me repeatedly - "Stop if you see a turtle". My pat response- "If we see a turtle AND we can safely stop, then we will". This was usually met with silence, since Jess thought it would be better to hold up traffic and save a turtle...I felt that way too, but heck, I had that whole 'being an adult' thing to deal with.
After maybe 5 minutes of unsuccessful turtle spotting, and Jess would pop her head up and say- "If you see anything that looks like it might be a turtle, you better stop". So we would proceed down the country roads between Jess's Mom's house and our house slowing down to look at rocks, walnuts and other debris in the road. If we got lucky, a turtle might be found and lovingly carried back to our property where it would be admired then released.
I wish Jess had been with me this morning for the 3 turtle sighting.
