Stinky Cow feet, and other assorted news

Erik and Jess and I went to the Home & Garden show yesterday. I mainly wanted to talk to fencing contractors to get some idea of pricing to have an area around the house fenced in for the dogs. There was only one fencing contractor at the show. He was a nice fellow and quoted us a decent price for vinyl coated chain link, which actually looks pretty good, and would not block our view out into the woods too awfully much.

The Humane Society had a booth and we bought cow hooves for the dogs to chew on. Buster and Petey love them, but by God, they stink after being chewed on for a bit…I’m sitting here typing in the middle of a room that smells of wet cow feet…yuk!

I’m glad that we have the DST patching done- it was kind of a pain, but really not that bad- it was more the concern of messing with so many things that were ticking along working just fine, plus the research time to check things, that I didn’t really have to spare. Oh well- it will be nice to have more daylight in the evenings here in a couple of weeks.

Trivial Pursuits

Jess’s High School show choir had a trivia night last night as a fund-raiser. We didn’t really know what the deal was completely and didn’t get word out to friends in time, but Erik and I went. We had a table with Jess, Jess’s 11 year old sister Audrey, Thomas, the 2 year old Jess was babysitting, and Jess’s friend Erin. We actually didn’t do that bad, considering the eclectic nature of our group. We ended up 6th out of about 25 tables of people. There were some decent prizes, and it was a really fun night, so next year we will get word out to friends sooner.

The Polar ice cap that was covering our yard is finally gone. We still have a few smallish patches of ice back in the woods, and in one of the areas that I was walking the dog, so we still are on a modified hiking route. This weekend was rainy and pretty chilly, so not much hiking was done. I’m really looking forward to a nice warm sunny day to get the dogs out for a long one. I have Petey up to about a good brisk half mile over rough terrain now, which we do twice a day. I’m sure he could do a 2 mile hike now without a problem. I think part of the reason he pooped out on my earlier on was not just his lack of muscle tone, but also that the pads on his feet were fairly soft. I guess it would be like me trying to hike the woods in a pair of slippers. Now his feet are hardened up and even in the cold rain yesterday he trooped right along.

Not much else is going on here on the home front. As soon as it warms up so I can vent the house I’ll be removing the remaining floor glue from the entry way so we can finish floor prep and then lay the ceramic tile. I have some fairly stout chemicals to get the rest of the glue up, and I’ll have to have windows and doors open to use the stuff.
